Vice President’s Clinical and Translational (VPCAT) Research Scholars Program

We are inviting junior faculty committed to careers in clinical or translational research to apply for the 2023-2024 Cohort of the Vice President’s Clinical and Translational (VPCAT) Research Scholars Program. The VPCAT Program is a competitive, 2-year mentoring program that offers intensive mentorship and support to primarily Instructor or Assistant Professor-level faculty members from all colleges and schools within the Health Sciences, the Colleges of Mines and Earth Sciences, Social and Behavioral Science, and Social Work. Interested applicants not a member of the aforementioned groups should contact Erin Wachs regarding eligibility. Applicants should be engaged in clinical and translational research and aspire to achieve research independence as a principal investigator.

VPCAT leverages the resources of our institution to augment departmental resources in support of junior faculty investigators using a multi-level Matrix Mentoring Model that includes self, scientific, peer, senior, and staff mentorship. The program incorporates formal and informal mentoring; a structured curriculum focused on leadership competencies, essential knowledge, and practical skills to be an effective clinical or translational researcher; and access to resources to facilitate appropriate study design, collection of pilot data, and preparation and submission of competitive grant applications. For those who meet the Applicant Eligibility Criteria and are interested in applying, there will be a VPCAT Application Workshop held on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 4:00-5:00 pm via Zoom to review the application and answer questions. All applications are due by Friday, September 30, 2022, at 5:00PM MST and no late applications will be accepted.

Instructions, review criteria, example applications, and program overviews are available on our website and included in Competition Space. Applications are reviewed and candidates selected by the VPCAT Senior mentors and members of the VPCAT Alumni Advisory Board. The program begins January 1, 2023 and concludes December 31, 2024. For questions about the VPCAT Research Scholars Program and/or faculty eligibility, please contact Erin Wachs.
