NSF Broader Impacts Workshop: Incorporating Effective Public Engagement Activities into Your Proposal has been scheduled on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 2:30-5:00pm via Zoom.

The growing emphasis on Broader Impacts in assessment of research grants calls for efficient and effective training of scientists to design, implement, and evaluate public engagement of research to the public. The Broader Impacts (BI) Workshop is an interactive 2.5-hour hands-on session delivered through Zoom. Researchers will learn about the NSF BI criteria and receive guidance developing innovative public engagement activities to fulfill BI requirements and increase access to science. Participants will apply a process developed by the NSF-funded STEM Ambassador Program (STEMAP) to distill their research, personal interests, and experiences to brainstorm BI partnerships and activities that draw upon their research and personal interests. Participants will leave the session with public engagement ideas that will make their BI statement stand out to reviewers. They may attend STEMAP’s semester-long training after this workshop for in-depth guidance to implement BI activities.
