PIVOT’s Corporate Engagement team works across all schools and units to facilitate partnerships and offer expertise on identifying opportunities that include grant funding, sponsored research and creating strategic corporate partnerships. PIVOT also provides guidance to faculty for successful stewardship. Pfizer: Understanding Healthcare Disparities in IBD Patients in Underserved Communities
Amount: $250,000
Deadline: June 25, 2021

Projects that will be considered for support will focus on understanding healthcare disparities among underrepresented populations in IBD with a special emphasis on healthcare resources access and utilization:

  • Examples include but are not limited to: Access to gastroenterologist-led care, access to appropriate therapies and testing, assessing appropriate steroid utilization, ER/Urgent Care use, and healthcare maintenance (such as vaccination, bone health, lab monitoring, cancer prevention, smoking cessation, behavioral health and/or nutritional assessment).
  • Projects which entail systematic and continuous actions able to demonstrate measurable outcomes via methodologically rigorous methods will be given the highest priority.
  • Priority will also be given to projects that address patients who are part of a medically underserved population; this is defined as patients who have experienced health and/or healthcare system disparities secondary to social determinants of health.

  • Raise awareness of cardiovascular risk in patients with prostate cancer receiving Androgen Deprivation Treatment (ADT)
  • Differentiate the clinical significance of LHRH agonists vs. GnRH antagonists

  • Mindfully recognize patient preference and adherence data regarding oral vs. parenteral oncologic therapy

Facebook: 2021 RFP on Agent-based User Interaction Simulation to Find and Fix Integrity and Privacy Issues

In this call, we are particularly interested in research work that tackles the scientific and technical challenges we face in developing and deploying Web Enabled Simulation and that could also lead to longer and deeper collaboration between partners from the academic research community and our WW project team. More details, including open research problems and challenges we hope to tackle in partnership with the scientific community, can be found in our keynote position paper at the 25th International Conference on Evaluation and Assessment in Software Engineering (EASE 2021). We believe research in a number of areas may make valuable contributions to the web enabled simulation agenda, including, but not limited to, research on Multi Agent Systems, Search Based Software Engineering, Social Software Testing Verification and Validation, Predictive Systems, Machine Learning, Multi Objective Search, AI Assisted Game Play, Automated Mechanism Design, Co-evolutionary Mechanism Learning, End User Realism, Synthetic Graph Generation, and Game Theory.

Pfizer: Antibiotic Stewardship in Pediatrics/Infectious Disease - Bacteria
Amount: $100,000
Deadline: July 8, 2021

In resource limited settings, antibiotic use in children is common withevidence suggesting both overuse in many settings and underuse in others. Further, differences in usage based on gender and/or class suggest inequities that need to be addressed. Interventions are needed to ensure good stewardship practices are applied to children, one of the most vulnerable populations.

Pfizer: Identifying and Diagnosing Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)
Amount: $250,000
Deadline: July 12, 2021

Projects that will be considered for Pfizer support will focus on: Improving the care, management, and outcomes of patients with JIA by increasing HCP knowledge on the following: 1) Disease state education, 2) differential disease diagnosis, 3) referral to pediatric rheumatology clinicians and reinforce co-management among the multidisciplinary health care team, 4) patient management and preparation for the transition from pediatric care to adult care, and 5) approved treatments and guidelines including new MOAs for JIA.

 In 2021, Instagram requests research proposals to help us better understand experiences on Instagram that may or may not contribute to the safety and health of our community. This includes, but is not limited to, research that will help us better understand equity and fairness issues facing our communities, develop better policies, assess possible improvements to protect our younger community, or better understand the mechanisms (e.g., social support, social comparison) through which Instagram usage would directly impact the people that use our service. We especially encourage researchers investigating topics that may affect teen communities or underserved or vulnerable communities to apply.
