PIVOT Center works with companies to thoroughly understand their R&D goals and match them to research goals of the appropriate faculty members at the University of Utah. PIVOT’s Corporate Engagement team works across all schools and units to facilitate partnerships and offer expertise on identifying opportunities that include grant funding, sponsored research and creating strategic corporate partnerships. PIVOT also provides guidance to faculty for successful stewardship. Pfizer: COVID-19 Vaccine Patient Education: Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy

The intent is to support patient education programs designed to increase the understanding and familiarity with COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination among the general population. Of particular interest are educational programs that focus on reaching the medically underserved and other under-immunized populations including those in both rural and urban settings. All activity types will be considered, though given the current circumstances, virtual and digital activities will be prioritized. This includes applications to repurpose existing educational resources into easy-to-use and easy-to-access delivery formats (e.g. mobile apps.) We will also consider applications repurposing education or training resources that currently exist in one language but could be modified and translated to other languages and rolled out in different geographies.

Proposals from Principal Investigators will be considered for high-risk and high-reward science research projects which have potential to lead to science discoveries/solutions and, based on further research, to breakthrough treatments for patients. Applications will be considered from Principal Investigators in the Chemical Biology field for laboratory investigation to be carried out in the United States and Canada.

The Selection Committee will choose a scientist (or a group of scientists), in basic or clinical research, who:

  • Has made a significant contribution to research that has impacted, or has strong potential to impact, human health through the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of disease.
  • Exhibits the standards of innovation, insight, and leadership that Dr. Paul exemplified during his career.
  • Provides a living example that the study of science and technology can enable or has the potential to enable extended, healthy, productive life.
