New Associate Director of Research Education – Jesse Morris, PhD

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jesse Morris, PhD, as the Associate Director of Research Education, effective October 1st, 2021. This is a new position within the Research Education department. Dr. Morris will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity & Compliance.

Dr. Morris received his BA from the University of South Carolina and his MS and PhD in Geography from the University of Utah. He served his postdoctoral training in Geosciences and Geography at the University of Helsinki in Finland where he examined climate-treeline dynamics in Arctic Russia. He also received a postdoctoral opportunity with the Department of Forest and Fire Sciences at the University of Idaho where he studied forest biogeochemistry in Tasmania, Australia. Dr. Morris' research is focused on forest disturbance ecology and he has an active NSF grant to study aspen-fire dynamics at Fish Lake, Utah.

Following his postdoctoral training, Dr. Morris received a teaching faculty position at Weber State University in the Department of Geography. In 2015, he joined the University of Utah as a Research Assistant Professor in the department of Geography and was recently appointed as Research Associate Professor in 2021. In addition, Dr. Morris has worked as a Grants Manager for the Office of the Vice President for Research supporting faculty researchers in developing proposals to be submitted the National Science Foundation and other federal agencies.

He looks forward to leading Research Education efforts across campus and advancing grantsmanship and responsible research conduct for the University of Utah. We are excited to partner with Dr. Morris as we continue to fulfill the missions of Research Education at the University of Utah.
