New NSF Grant Writing Resources
The Vice President for Research Office of Research Education (REd) is pleased to announce
new courses and services to guide researchers in writing proposals for the National
Science Foundation.
The NSF Grant Writing Foundations course is the first step in learning to prepare a competitive NSF proposal for funding. This foundation course is a prerequisite for participants who will continue on to the NSF Grant Writing Workshop, and is highly recommend prior to participating in the NSF Grant Writing Consultations. Please click here to register.
The NSF Grant Writing Consultation is a 60-minute Q&A session for researchers and investigators at any point in the grant writing process. This in-person forum allows for participants to ask brief questions about any aspect of preparing NSF proposals. Researchers can bring their draft proposal outline/research questions for feedback, ask questions about the grant writing or review process, or share and learn tips to make proposals more competitive. An expert in grant writing will facilitate the discussion. Please click here to register.
The NSF Grant Writing Workshop is a one-day, hands-on workshop to assist researchers and investigators in developing competitive proposals for NSF. The course will cover the grant writing process from framing research ideas, outlining and drafting the core proposal elements, and addressing intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria. Participants will share and receive feedback on their project ideas, research questions, and broader impacts activities from both peers and experienced grant writers. This six-hour workshop is designed for sharing ideas and obtaining professional feedback. The next Workshop will be held on Friday, October 30th from 11am-5pm. Please click here to register.
We would also like to remind investigators that the course Onboarding for new PIs: Submitting proposals at the University of Utah is required for all PIs submitting proposals for the first time. This course guides new PIs through the process of preparing and submitting proposals, and describes campus resources for finding sources of funding, preparing proposal documents, and submitting proposals to all external sponsors.
Additional grant-writing courses for other federal agencies are under development. For the latest offerings please visit the Grant Writing by Agency webpage on the Research Education Website. Available courses will be updated regularly.
