Intramural Funding

Intramural funding opportunities are supported within the University of Utah and cater to University of Utah faculty looking for support on advanced or preliminary research projects. This includes seed and engine funding as well as specific challenges, initiatives and fellowships offered by various department, colleges or research units.

CCTS Translational and Clinical Studies Pilot Program 
Letter of Intent Deadline: September 23
rd, 2020 (by 5pm MST)

The Utah Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) is pleased to announce that we are requesting proposals for the 2021 award cycle of the CCTS Translation and Clinical Studies Pilot Program. The CCTS provides intramural awards to support the growth of interdisciplinary and investigator-initiated clinical and translational research across U Health’s broad range of scientific disciplines. It is expected that all research supported by CCTS pilot project awards will result in one or more publications in a peer-reviewed journal and will provide critical preliminary data to support extramural applications.

Faculty Scholarly Grant Program 
Deadline: Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 
Amount: $6,000 

The Faculty Small Grant Program (FSGP) seeks to support significant research and creative scholarly projects in colleges that experience difficulty obtaining extramural funding. This program will provide faculty with grants up to $6,000 for a period of two years to support scholarly projects and publications. In exceptional circumstances the committee may elect to support an outstanding proposal at a higher level of funding. Proposals are evaluated on their significance, soundness, merit, and likelihood of successful completion.

Distinguished Research Awards
Nomination Open Date: September 1
st, 2020
Nomination Deadline: October 15
th, 2020 

The Distinguished Research Award recognizes outstanding achievements in scholarly or creative research by University of Utah tenured faculty. The URC will provide up to three awards for creative or scholarly achievements. Nominations are received once per year for this award.

Research Instrumentation Fund 
Fall Deadline: September 18, 2020

The Research Instrumentation Fund (RIF) provides support to faculty and core facilities for new equipment purchases, or to replace/upgrade existing research equipment. The VPR Office runs two cycles of the RIF Program – one for Fall semester, and one for Spring semester. Equipment purchased with RIF funds is meant to be shared as broadly as possible and used to facilitate externally funded research and scholarship.  The Research Instrumentation Fund is available to: 

  • Individuals who currently hold a faculty appointment at the University of Utah
