Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Research

Dear Colleagues,

In an effort to enhance equity and diversity on campus, the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) is excited to launch the new support mechanisms for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in Research.

The program’s goal is to provide an equitable, supportive, and inclusive environment for researchers at the University of Utah. As one of the VPR Office’s core values, the U research enterprise will foster an inclusive culture that is accessible to current and prospective Utah residents of all backgrounds. The following EDI programs include:

  1. Research Climate
    • Measure and track campus-wide commitments to diversity in research
    • Provide training in implicit bias for researchers
    • Heighten the integrity of the U research process
  1. Funding Resources
    • Support voluntary cost-share for EDI-related research proposal
    • Diversity administrative supplement
    • Grant writing support for investigators experiencing hardship

These programs, some of which are still under development, have been informed by the U research community and will serve as an initial framework for future EDI, anti-racism, and discrimination initiatives.

Amongst other great efforts from our EDI leaders at the U, we hope this will be one of many steps in addressing systemic racism and discrimination in the research space. We know here is still much more work to be done. We are committed to holding ourselves and our research community accountable as we move forward in our fight for equality together. Thank you.
