COVID-19 Research Continuity Planning for the University of Utah: March 17 – March 30
The Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) remains operational as we continue to closely monitor the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Here are our most recent research community updates:
- As of Wednesday, March 25, 2020, EHS personnel will begin conducting periodic walk-throughs of all research buildings, verifying that personnel are complying with University guidance on physical distancing, confirming that ongoing work is limited to essential functions, and verifying that building conditions are safe and stable.
- As research activities ramp down, under no circumstances is it appropriate to remove animals from IACUC approved housing or research spaces. Similarly, removal of hazardous, biological, or radioactive material from approved research spaces is not allowed.
- Guidance on Essential Research Activities permitted on campus has been posted.
- A COVID-19 Research webpage has been created (includes a link to COVID funding opportunities and research news).
- A laboratory ramp down checklist is available.
- A new guidance was posted for the CZAR and CBRZ facilities.
- Please visit the Funding Agencies Updates webpage for ongoing updates from NIH, NSF, and more.
- In partnership with our office, the Immunology, Inflammation, and Infectious Disease (3i) Initiative has posted a new internal COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 funding opportunity.
- New guidance was posted for Mandatory Researchers on Campus.
- New guidance was posted for Essential Travel to Remote Areas During the COVID-19 Outbreak.
Thank you for all of your input as we strive to provide needed information and guidance on the VPR website as quickly as possible. We appreciate all of your hard work to keep research operations running smoothly as much as possible during these challenging events. Please see this “Thank U” video that expresses our appreciation for everything you’ve been doing to support our community.
