Corporate & Foundations Funding
The University of Utah Corporate and Foundation Relations program can help build a relationship between you and potential private funding partners.
Our team can advise on strategic approaches, arrange visits, review draft proposals
and help translate ideas into fundable projects or programs. Please contact Chris Ostrander at 5-7220 if you are interested in applying for an opportunity listed below, or on
the CFR Funding Opportunity website.
Spencer Foundation — Research Grants on Education
Deadline: June 18, 2020
Amount: Up to $500,000
The Spencer Foundation invites proposals for its large research grants on education. These support education research projects that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived. This program supports proposals with multiple disciplinary and methodological perspectives that develop new foundational knowledge that may also have a lasting impact on policy-making, practice or educational discourse.
The principal investigators and co-PIs must hold a doctorate in an academic discipline or professional field or have appropriate experience in an education research-related profession. They must also be affiliated with a college, university, school district, non-profit research facility or non-profit cultural institution. Graduate students are not eligible to apply as PI or co-PI. Proposals are accepted from the US and internationally.
PIs and Co-PIs may not submit more than one application for a given deadline in this program.
W.M. Keck Foundation Internal Call for Concept Papers
Deadline: Friday, June 19, 2020
Amount: $1,000,000
The Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking interdisciplinary and transformative project concepts for the W. M. Keck Foundation. Keck seeks to benefit humanity by supporting
projects in two specific areas (1) medical research and (2) science and engineering, that are distinctive and novel in their approach, question the prevailing paradigm,
or have the potential to break open new territory in a field. Funding requests are for $1,000,000 in direct costs over three years. Indirect costs are not supported. Larger budget requests and award extensions are
not allowed.
If you would like to submit an initial project idea, please complete and submit a
one-page concept paper using the template attached via Infoready. The deadline to submit concept papers is Friday, June 19, 2020 (this is the first of three steps needed foran award decision in June, 2021). The process is highly competitive, and after the initial concept papers stage, the foundation receives ~150 Phase 1 proposals and ultimately funds 8-10 projects.

Deadline: June 30, 2020
Amount: $225,000
The Young Scholars Program supports scholarship for early career researchers working
to implement policy and practice-relevant research in the field of the early care
and education workforce. The funder is committed to diversity and equity in scholarship
and encourages applications from underrepresented groups such as researchers of color,
first generation college graduates, culturally and linguistically diverse students,
and those from low incoming communities who represent a variety of disciplines and
methodological approaches.

minds, deepen understanding, and inspire curiosity. Core funding areas include Science
& the Big Questions, Character Virtue Development, Individual Freedom and Free Markets,
Exceptional Cognitive Talent and Genius, Genetics, and Voluntary Family Planning.
