UMail, Microsoft security upgrades will affect the U of U community starting mid-July

The University of Utah will begin implementing security upgrades to help prevent phishing-related unauthorized access to university email accounts.
Starting in mid-July, 2020, the U will begin implementing Microsoft modern authentication and, in a phased approach, two-factor authentication (2FA) for UMail and university-licensed Microsoft applications. This is a major change for the U and U of U Health, and will impact many users — all faculty and staff, most students, and all health care workers. In most cases, their connections to UMail and Microsoft apps will be disrupted in mid-July and they will need to adjust their UMail settings on mobile devices and possibly their computers. UIT is aware of approximately 1000 users who will need to obtain new mobile devices, because their current devices are too old to support the new security protocols. UIT will contact those users directly.
