Racism continues to plague the United States and threaten the very lives of Americans. We only need to look at the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery to see that this remains true today.
In response to recent events, Dean Martell Teasley from the College of Social Work, Dean Elizabeth Kronk Warner from the S.J. Quinney College of Law, and others have hosted a recorded livestream discussion of The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin and The Fire This Time by Jesmyn Ward. Panelists used these books to frame the conversation on race and racism in the United States with a special eye toward recent events.
Panelists also offered thoughts on ways that the University of Utah community—alumni, students, staff, faculty, and donors—may come together to create a more inclusive environment for everyone.
