Undergraduate Research mentoring Development Program
The Spring 2020 Undergraduate Research Mentor Development Program (URMDP) registration
for graduate students and post-docs is now open, and will close when all spots are filled. Registration can be found HERE. Before registering, please review the details of the Spring 2020 program and make sure you will be able to attend at least four of the five in-person meetings.
Program Structure
- Six online (Canvas) modules plus five in-person discussion sessions
- NOTE: For the purpose of postdoctoral researchers and graduate studentswho are participating in order to serve as UROP mentors, successful completion of the Mentor Development Program is defined as follows: Completing all Canvas modules by their deadlines and attending at least four of the five in-person sessions. Those who successfully compete the Mentor Development Program during the Spring 2020 semester are eligible to serve as Summer 2020 UROP mentors (student deadline in March 2020).
- Required work is due prior to the beginning of the associated in-person meeting.
Mentoring Modules
We are pleased to offer two sections of the URMDP this Spring! The AM section (facilitated by Dr. Elizabeth Archuleta, Ethnic Studies) will meet 10-11:30 and the PM section (facilitated by Dr. Alexis Christensen, World Languages & Cultures) will meet 2-3:30. See meeting dates below. All in-person meetings will take place in Sill Center Room 120.
Module 1. Elements of Effective Mentoring/Developing a Mentoring Philosophy
- Required Work: URMDP Pre-Survey, Mentoring Philosophy Draft, due Friday, January 17, 2020
Module 2. Establishing Expectations and Maintaining Effective Communication
- Required Work: Reflection “quiz”
- In-person meeting and work due date: Friday, January 24, 2020
Module 3. Assessing Understanding and Fostering Independence
- Required Work: Reflection “quiz”
- In-person meeting and work due date: Friday, February 7, 2020
Module 4. Academic Literacy & Writing
- Required Work: Reflection “quiz,” Mentoring Philosophy Draft 2
- In-person meeting and work due date: Friday, February 21, 2020
Module 5. Research and Mentoring Ethics
- Required Work: Reflection “quiz”
- In-person meeting and work due date: Friday, March 6, 2020
Module 6. Professional Development
- Required Work: URMDP Post-Survey, Final Mentoring Philosophy
- In-person meeting and work due date: Friday, March 20, 2020
