Corporate & Foundation Funding
The University of Utah Corporate and Foundation Relations program can help build a relationship between you and potential private funding partners.
Our team can advise on strategic approaches, arrange visits, review draft proposals
and help translate ideas into fundable projects or programs. Please contact Chris Ostrander at 5-7220 if you are interested in applying for an opportunity listed below, or on
the CFR Funding Opportunity website.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation — Interdisciplinary Research Leaders
Deadline: March 11, 2020
Amount: $350,000
This call for applications (CFA) seeks teams of researchers and community members who are committed to working together to produce community-relevant, action-oriented research to improve health and well-being. The applicant organization (the one group that will accept and distribute RWJF funds) will be represented by the team members listed on its application.
The broad goal of the Interdisciplinary Research Leaders (IRL) program is to produce diverse interdisciplinary leaders who conduct and apply high-quality, community-engaged, action-oriented, equity-focused health research in order to drive improvements in the health of communities. Another central goal of the IRL program is to foster and support new interdisciplinary, action-oriented research collaborations that will help build the evidence base for effective community interventions to improve health for all.
Retirement Research Foundation: LOI’s for Projects in Aging
Deadline: March 15, 2020
Amount: Up to $200,000
The Retirement Research Foundation is one of the first private foundations in the nation devoted exclusively to aging and retirement issues, supporting advocacy, services, trained professionals, and other solutions to assist the elderly. RRF’s Responsive Grants program supports projects in the following major areas: Advocacy, Professional Education and Training, Research, and Direct Service. The program is increasing their funding scope to the following priority areas: Caregiving, Housing, Economic Security in Later Life, and Social & Intergenerational Connectedness.
Howard Hughes Medical Institute: Investigator Awards
Deadline: March 18, 2020
Amount: Approx. $7M over seven years
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is seeking to appoint approximately 20 new investigators through a national open competition. This effort will expand HHMI’s community of nearly 300 investigators who perform basic biological research across the nation.
HHMI investigators receive a seven-year appointment, renewable pending favorable scientific review. HHMI encourages investigators to push their research fields into new areas of inquiry. Investigators are employees of HHMI and receive salary and benefits from the Institute. Investigators are provided generous financial support for research as well as access to capital equipment funds. Appointments involve a collaborative agreement with the investigator’s host institution, where the researcher holds a concurrent appointment and the research is performed.
Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation — Machine Learning in the Chemical Sciences and
Engineering
Deadline: April 2, 2020
Amount: The amount of support requested is determined by the applicant.
The Dreyfus program for Machine Learning in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering provides funding for innovative projects in any area of Machine Learning (ML) consistent with the Foundation’s broad objective to advance the chemical sciences and engineering. The Foundation anticipates that these projects will contribute new fundamental chemical insight and innovation in the field.
The Foundation encourages proposals to significantly stimulate and accelerate the development of the use of ML and other related aspects of data science to the Chemical Sciences and Engineering. Below are some examples this program may support:
- molecular synthesis, including mechanisms, techniques, and applications
- theory, computation, physical properties of molecules or materials
- rates and mechanisms of new chemical processes
- new or improved materials and materials applications
- postdoctoral support for collaborations that combine chemical science research with ML expertise
- collaborative sabbaticals, extended visits, and meetings
- education, e.g., new courses, seminar series, MOOCs,…
- public libraries of chemistry and chemical engineering data for use in ML
Simons Foundation for Autism Research Initiative (SFARI): Collaborative Awards for
Sex Differences in Autism Research
Deadline: April 21, 2020
Amount: Up to $8,000,000 over 3 years
For this SFARI Collaboration, we welcome proposals that will use an array of modern technologies to examine sex differences in brain function, within and across species, including humans, to identify key differences in gene, cell and circuit function that account for the observed differential sensitivities of the two sexes to ASD. A successful Collaboration must enhance our understanding of the biological bases for sex-specific differences in ASD and set the stage for development of novel interventions.
