Seeking Nominations for the Ralph E. Powe Junior Awards Program

The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards Program provides research seed money for junior faculty at Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) member institutions. These competitive research awards often result in additional funding from other sources. The awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities.

The Dean of the Graduate School is soliciting nominations for the 2020 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Award. As an ORAU member institution, the University of Utah may nominate up to two (2) applicants. In order to be considered for nomination, please arrange for a nomination letter to be sent from your Department Chair or Dean to the Graduate School.

The letter should indicate:

  • the merits of the nomination
  •  a commitment to provide the required matching funds.

The nomination letter should be accompanied by a short 2-3 page NSF/NIH style CV for the proposed nominee. The nominee should also provide a written statement that demonstrates their commitment to complete the submission of the required materials, if selected, to the online application portal by the ORAU deadline: Wednesday, January 8, 2020, 5:00 pm EST / 3:00pm MST.

All materials must be submitted to the Dean of the Graduate school by email by 5:00 pm December 15, 2019. Nominees will be notified by December 21, 2019 regarding their selection.

Additional information regarding this program may be found at the ORAU website

Questions regarding this program may also be directed to the University of Utah's ORAU councilor, Prof. David Kieda, Dean of the Graduate School.
