The Center on Aging’s annual research retreat will be held on Friday April 5th in the Eccles Genetics Auditorium titled, “Developing Value-Driven Age Friendly Health Systems.” We very much hope that you or a representative from your area will be able to join us and participate in the day’s activities.
We are very pleased that two members of the AFHS Advisory Board to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) - Drs. Mary Tinetti and Kevin Biese - are joining us as our keynote speakers. The main focus of the retreat is to develop a research agenda for how we can evaluate outcomes related to implementing more age friendly aspects of care across our system. To that end, they will be followed by two overviews of our “competitive advantage” in assessing its value - VDO tools (Charlton Park) and mEVAL (Rachel Hess). Next will be reports from our three Learning Community Teams that have been piloting activities related to three of the four geriatric “Ms” - mentation, mobility and medication. Four working groups will each focus on one of the four Ms during a working lunch. Their charge will be to develop a research agenda for the next 1 to 2 years whereby our value metrics could be utilized to assess the outcomes of developing age friendly programs. The day will conclude with reports from each group and a discussion of sustainability and next steps. Please see the attached CoA retreat agenda and presentation announcement.
