Important: All Labs Must Complete Federal Mandated Survey

New federal mandates from national funding agencies are requiring all University of Utah laboratories to complete to report usage/non-usage for biological materials. In order to ensure compliance with federal policies, principal investigators of all laboratories must complete this brief SURVEY by July 31, 2019.

Fall 2019 Undergraduate Research Mentor Development Program Registration Open

The purpose of the Undergraduate Research Mentor Development Program is to increase the capacity of the University of Utah to provide high-quality research mentors for undergraduate students. Participation in the program is available to University of Utah graduate students, post-docs, and faculty. Upon successful completion of the program, graduate students and post-docs will be eligible to serve in the place of ‘faculty mentors’ in the context of the Office of Undergraduate Research’s funding programs.

New Associate VP for Research Integrity & Compliance

As of July 1, 2019, Dr. Jeff Botkin will officially step down from his role as the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Compliance. Dr. Erin Rothwell, PhD, has been appointed as the new Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Compliance for the University of Utah. Dr. Rothwell will have oversight for the Human Subjects Protection Program and the related compliance offices, including the Intuitional Review Board (IRB), Conflict of Interest (COI), Research Misconduct, Resource for Genetic and Epidemiologic Research (RGE), Research Education, and the Biosafety Committee.

University Site License for Oracle Java Products

The University of Utah has purchased a one-time, 12-month Oracle Java subscription license that covers Oracle Java product use by all of University of Utah campus and UHealth organizations. The 12-month subscription was purchased in order to give university organizations time to migrate to alternative no-cost Java products for in-house and vendor-provided software. University IT leaders strongly urge system administrators to migrate to alternative no-cost Java products as soon as possible, no later than May 2020.
