Open Position: Administrative Program Coordinator, VPR Office

Announcement

The Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) is hiring an Administrative Program Coordinator. This position will plan and implement programmatic and administrative activities within the Associate Vice President for Research (AVPR) unit. The essential functions of this position include scheduling/calendaring for the AVPR, administering VPR-sponsored programs, and providing other administrative assistance within the AVPR unit. The successful candidate will have a strong background in administrative work, managing multiple programs and deadlines, planning and scheduling, event coordinating, communicating with various types of stakeholders, etc.

UHP Helium Allocation Request Program - August 2022 Application Portal

Announcement

There is a global helium shortage that is reducing the amount of compressed helium the University of Utah receives each month. To engage this issue both in the short- and long-term, the University is launching a helium allocation request program to allocate the limited supply of helium we receive each month. Some of the compressed helium tanks we receive each month are marked for patient use; however, all remaining tanks will be allocated to the research community.

Dr. Jakob Jensen is named new Interim Associate Vice President for Research

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jakob D. Jensen, Ph.D., as the Interim Associate Vice President for Research (AVPR), effective January 24, 2022. Dr. Jensen will assume the role from Dr. Erin Rothwell who is currently serving as the Interim Vice President for Research (VPR). Dr. Jensen brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the U’s research enterprise as both an academic leader and renowned researcher. As interim AVPR, he will oversee the Office of Sponsored Projects, Pre-Award team, Research Education, and Bonderman Field Station at Rio Mesa.

I am excited to announce that Dr. Diane Pataki has accepted a new position as the Director of the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University (ASU). Dr. Pataki will be transitioning her duties over the coming months and officially stepping down in her current role as Associate Vice President for Research (AVPR) effective September 30, 2021.

New Grant Development Specialist for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Research

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mercedes Ward as a new Grant Development Specialist in the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR). Dr. Ward will support research strategic planning and grant development in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) at the University of Utah, effective July 1, 2021.
