Can We Talk? Contacting Your Program Officer

Have you ever received this feedback? Talking with a program officer can have a powerful impact on a researcher's thinking. From re-sharing the research design to reconsidering where the proposal should be submitted, or if it even should be submitted at all. Preproposal communication with program officers can help avoid a distressing outcome, and perhaps protect your most precious resource – your time. Talking with researchers is one of the most important responsibilities assigned to program officers, so you should help them do their jobs!

HHMI Investigator Program Opens National Competition

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is seeking to appoint approximately 20 new Investigators through a national open competition. This effort will expand HHMI’s community of nearly 300 Investigators, who perform basic biological research across the nation. HHMI Investigators receive a seven-year appointment, which is renewable pending favorable scientific review. HHMI encourages Investigators to push their research fields into new areas of inquiry.

All of Us Research Program Seeks Public Input

The All of Us Research Program is working with American Indian and Alaska Native tribal nations to ensure that all issues and concerns related to research among American Indians and Alaska Natives are understood. The NIH program has issued a Request for Information to collect additional input from formal consultations and engagements with tribal nations. Individuals and organizations interested in commenting on the issue should submit their responses by Oct. 31.
