As of July 1, 2019, Dr. Jeff Botkin will officially step down from his role as the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Compliance. Dr. Erin Rothwell, PhD, has been appointed as the new Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Compliance for the University of Utah. Dr. Rothwell will have oversight for the Human Subjects Protection Program and the related compliance offices, including the Intuitional Review Board (IRB), Conflict of Interest (COI), Research Misconduct, Resource for Genetic and Epidemiologic Research (RGE), Research Education, and the Biosafety Committee.
The offices of the Vice President for Research (VPR) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) would like to bring attention to several major recommendations and changes to lab safety programs around campus. The Clinical Research Compliance and Education (CRCE) Office is a core team within Compliance Services at the University of Utah. The CRCE team facilitates processes, provides training and education, and engages in oversight activities designed to ensure that clinical services associated with human subjects research are charged to the correct party, that claims submitted to government health care programs comply with the requirements of the applicable program, and that human subjects research complies with expectations imposed by the federal Food and Drug Administration. The Clinical Research Compliance and Education team manages the University Tracking of Clinical Research (uTRAC) system, our clinical trial management system which play a crucial role in efforts to meet clinical research compliance obligations.
The University of Utah has purchased a one-time, 12-month Oracle Java subscription license that covers Oracle Java product use by all of University of Utah campus and UHealth organizations. The 12-month subscription was purchased in order to give university organizations time to migrate to alternative no-cost Java products for in-house and vendor-provided software. University IT leaders strongly urge system administrators to migrate to alternative no-cost Java products as soon as possible, no later than May 2020.
