Limited Submission Opportunities

This internal competition is designed to make a final selection for the NSF Regional Innovation Engines (NSF ENGINES) opportunity. Multiple faculty members were permitted to submit concept papers for NSF approval by the June 30, 2022 concept paper deadline, however, the University of Utah is limited to one LOI submission (out of all approved Type-1 and Type-2 concept papers) as lead institution. NSF has begun the process of reviewing and publishing concept papers that were approved for LOI submission. The estimated completion date for this step of the process is August 1, 2022.

The U has been invited to submit a single nominee for consideration by the Mellon Foundation for the New Directions Fellowship. The Mellon Foundation recognizes that serious interdisciplinary research often requires established scholar-teachers to pursue formal substantive and methodological training in addition to the PhD.

PAC-12 Student-Athlete Health and Well-Being Initiative - LSO Information

The PAC-12 Student-Athlete Health and Well-Being Initiative (SAHWBI) Board has released a request for pre-proposals for the 2023 cycle of its grant program (full details found HERE.) The pre-proposal will help streamline the proposal process and provide greater focus on the priority funding areas of this program. In addition to the standard grant proposal, this request includes a call for exploratory & bridge grant applications. These grants will fund preliminary studies, exploratory or development-based projects with large growth potential and high likelihood of National Institutes of Health (NIH) or similar support.

Limited Submission Opportunities

A Limited Submission Opportunity (LSO) is an extramural funding opportunity that limits the number applications submitted per institution. Researchers interested in submitting to a specific LSO must first apply to an internal competition and be selected for full proposal submission to the opportunity's sponsor. Internal competitions help verify the eligibility of an applicant and ensure that another application has not already been selected to submit to a specific limited submission opportunity. Candidates selected in an internal competition are notified prior to the Sponsor's deadline on whether they have been selected to submit a proposal on behalf of the University.
