Lightning Talk Event: "Ultra-Processed Foods & Artificial Additives"
Research has identified that chemicals in ultra-processed food and artificial additives could be a leading cause to negative health outcomes. Critical information identifying the effects of these chemicals and additives is proving to be vital to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as it strives to create healthier communities. The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Future of Food Working Group are excited to host a 90-minute “Ultra-Processed Foods & Artificial Additives” event on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025 designed to identify related and existing areas of strength on campus, hear lightning talks from active researchers in this space, and discuss emerging research opportunity in this area. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has called for more research on “diseases of isolation” such as suicide, depression, alcoholism, and addiction. Funders are calling for research to help engage the negative impacts of isolation. In coordination with the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Suicide Research Working Group, and the Applied Medical & Engineering (AME) Lab are excited to host a 90-minute “Diseases of Isolation” event on Monday, May 12th, 2025 to identify related and existing areas of strength on campus, hear lightning talks from active researchers in this space, and discuss emerging research opportunity in this area. Research has identified microplastics, PFAS, and other threats in our water, food, and greater ecosystem. Funders are calling for research to help detect and mitigate these threats. In coordination with the Office of the Vice President for Research, the PEAK Water Sustainability Engine is excited to host a 90-minute Microplastics lightning talk event on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025 to identify related and existing areas of strength on campus, hear lightning talks from active researchers in this space, and discuss emerging research opportunity in this area. 2025 Life Science Workforce Initiative: UofU Intent-to-Apply Submission Portal
The University of Utah is once again strategically collecting ideas for Utah Talent Ready/USHE’s 2025 cycle of the Life Science Workforce Initiative. This initiative aims to fund the creation or expansion of Life Science certificates, apprenticeships, and degrees that will prepare students for current and future careers in high-demand Life Science occupations. While there is no limit to the number of applications submitted from the University of Utah, we are asking UofU faculty with interest in this opportunity to submit an Intent-to-Apply to this internal competition.
