Calling all Utah undergraduate and graduate students who care about air quality or want to sharpen their problem-solving skills: sign up for A Breath of Fresh Air AI Hackathon June 4–5. Event organizers are also seeking environmental sciences experts to mentor teams before and during the hackathon. Read more and register by April 15.
Event overview: The University of Utah One-U Responsible AI Initiative is partnering with Amazon Web Services and NVIDIA to host A Breath of Fresh Air AI Hackathon June 4–5. During the hybrid event held online and on campus at the U, student-led teams will create AI-powered solutions for air quality prediction and improvement across the Wasatch Front. The event is open to the public but targeted toward Utah college students—no coding experience necessary. Food will be provided for in-person participants and cash prizes will be awarded: $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place. Read full details here.
Expectations for mentors: The One-U Responsible AI Initiative is seeking mentors who can commit at least two hours to this event, whether in person or online. Mentors will be assigned a hackathon team and spend one or two meetings helping their team scope out a project before the event. Ideally, mentors will also be available to help in some capacity during the 48-hour hackathon June 4–5. If you want to help but can’t commit to supporting a team, please consider registering as a judge and helping out on June 6. To join, please complete the brief registration form.
