Institutional Review Board Director Update

After 18.5 years of devoted service to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Human Research Protections Program (HRPP), Director, Ann Johnson, has decided to explore a new opportunity as Associate Vice Provost of Research Compliance at Stanford University. Her last day with the University of Utah in the Office of Research Integrity Office will be on August 14, 2024.

We are very pleased for Ann to be taking on this new role. Her commitment to ethical research and her clear understanding of the federal regulatory environment and ability to implement the required actions for our institution make her a terrific individual to fill this new position.

During her tenure, the HRPP received full AAHRPP accreditation beginning in 2007 and has maintained that important status since that time. The IRB was instrumental in adding a single IRB review service for national multi-site research—the U of U’s IRB is the institution other institutions contact for guidance. Throughout her time at the IRB, Ann has played a vital role in providing excellent leadership for her team, for the HRPP, and for the myriad of grants on which she has conducted important research on ethics and research integrity. Her presence will be greatly missed.

We are grateful to Ann for everything she has done for the institution and wish her happiness in this next chapter of her career path. Thank you, Ann!
