Since its inception in 1850, the University of Utah has been committed to developing cutting-edge research to enhance the lives of our local, national, and international communities. Whether it is finding a cure for cancer, creating innovative technologies, or understanding the complexities in the society we live in, each of the University’s remarkable discoveries are made possible by the dedication of its researchers, students, and staff.
The University prides itself on unique research pursuits and collaborative spirit catalyzed by researchers with a vast knowledge of myriad disciplines from around the world. With over 100 fields of study, 35 interdisciplinary programs, and 18 colleges, we have achieved significant annual increases in funding each year for the past five years. In FY 2018, the University reached a milestone of $515 million in federal funding and 2,326 grant and contract awards. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the University’s efforts to cultivate a leading research institution through excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaborations. We hope to continue this trajectory of success through the valuable efforts of the University’s research community, and by incorporating diverse research studies that represent the global community we serve.
The office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) remains committed to providing quality support and resources to our talented research faculty, students, and staff. It is our mission to partner with University colleges, departments, and programs to help achieve their research missions, and to find meaningful discoveries that will have a profound impact on our society for years to come.
We believe that at the University of Utah, innovation and creativity are limitless. We look forward to supporting new and exciting research. Thank you for being “U”.
