Marriot Library announces L2 Historical Voter Data file acquisition

The Marriott Library is excited to announce the recent acquisition of the L2 Historical Voter Data file!

L2 Data collects registered voter data on an ongoing basis for all fifty states and the District of Columbia. These data are then standardized and enhanced with proprietary commercial data and modeling codes to form separate enhanced state files dating back as early as 2014. The University of Utah now holds a copy of L2’s Historical List, which includes the historical voter files and the raw state voter data through 2023.

This dataset is exclusively available to University of Utah researchers, including faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduates completing a thesis or capstone project under faculty supervision.

Those seeking to gain access to the L2 Historical Voter Data, must obtain IRB approval and fill out the Marriott Library’s Access Request and Terms of Use Agreement Form. (Note: use of the L2 Historical Voter Files may constitute exempt research, but researchers may not “self-exempt” from the IRB process.)

Due to the sensitive nature of these data, authorized users will receive access through the Center for High Performance Computing’s Protected Environment.

For more information about access and usage, see our L2 Historical Voter Data LibGuide or contact us here.
