The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Science Policy recently issued an Implementation Update to Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Chairs and Biosafety Officers regarding increased transparency in IBC biosafety oversight. The purpose of the NIH request is to strengthen the public trust in the biomedical research enterprise. Under this update, IBC rosters will be publicly posted by the NIH, and IBC meeting minutes are to be posted on institutional websites, beginning with June 2025 meetings. To comply with the update, the University of Utah IBC will begin posting minutes on the IBC website at that time. Minutes will be redacted for the protection of proprietary and private information, including anything necessary to comply with privacy laws in the state of Utah.
