On Thursday, January 23, the University of Utah’s Office of Vice President for Research (VPR) and the Utah Governor’s Office Economic Opportunity (GOEO) will be holding the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) for Start-Ups event, presenting startup funding opportunities and accelerator programs available to University of Utah startups.
This free event will be held at the Sorensen Molecular Biotechnology Building (SMBB) – Main Auditorium (Room 2650). Registration is required. Click here to register.
The event will introduce U.S. federal seed funding through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR/STTR) programs (National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Defense, and National Institute of Health) and our entrepreneurial ecosystem including I-Corps™ Program, U Internal funding for startups, Doman Innovation Studio, Utah Innovation Fund, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and the Altitude Lab.
Attendees will also get a chance to meet Chad Testa Ph.D. (CEO at Cürza), a former faculty at the Department of Chemistry. Dr. Testa has received SBIR awards from the NIH (NIAID) to develop a new class of antibacterial drugs.
“This event is for anyone who wants to know more about support organizations for startups and small business companies,” said Dr. Won-Yong Lee, SBIR/STTR Grant Development Associate for the VPR Office. “Attendees will also learn how to fund innovative research through federal funding (SBIR/STTR programs) opportunities and navigate through our innovation ecosystem.”
